EFFECTS OF ENHANCEMENT TECHNIQUES ON THE BIOLOGICAL STABILIZATION OF MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE USING IN?VESSEL COMPOSTING SYSTEM
In this Lab-scale study, two enhancement techniques were applied and composed to the biodegradation of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). The enhancement techaniques were addition of cowdung and compost as innoculum. Experiments were performed in an indigenous fabricated, rotary in-vessel reactor of 1000 litres capacity. The experiment of the first trial of compost was prepared in an in-vessel reactor adding cow-dung as innoculum followed using the compost from first trial as innoculum in the 2nd trial showed not only the expected variations in moisture, temperature, pH and C:N ratio, but also establishes the fact that the inoculum of compost accelerates the composting process envisaging such inoculums will certainly play an important role in continuous in-vessel composting.
